Improving Productivity - The Big Three

It's very very easy to be productive at something that you like to do. If you like it, you'll do it more, you'll become engrossed in it, you'll get better at it, and you will learn how to become very productive at it.

The top reasons for this 'group give-up' are either training or staffing. Great employees know when they are understaffed improving productivity and will attempt to make up for the shortage in staff. At some point they will become frustrated when the realization is made they can't keep up.

You need short term goals. One a day. So here's what it looks like. You wake up in the morning. You know EXACTLY what you need to do THAT day to define the day as a success. Then at the end of the day you simply look back at your goal...

Like it or not, email is here to stay. It's doubling every six months, and if you don't learn to manage it effectively your productivity is going to plummet. Some people spend all day going through their emails.

Plan how you will implement this solution. There is a saying "perfect planning prevents poor performance". So, make a list of all the things more info you will need to do or find out to make the implementation of your solution perfect. Turn this into a plan with a timeline that clearly shows any dependencies between the tasks, the key milestones, the deliverables, who needs to do what and by when.

Personal Productivity Tip 10: Don't be an info junkie. More information doesn't necessarily change your life for the better. Do you ever save magazines, newsletters, etc. and yet 6 months later never read a single issue? Yet you keep them because you have the best of intentions to get to them as you feel that there will be some inspirational story or tidbit of info that you just don't want to miss out on. Do you read tips on subjects you are interested in improving in your life only to fail to take action on the advice given? Let the old magazines and journals go and start fresh.

As I said above, you need to invest your time. Allocate certain amount of time every day to study the course and do the exercises. Be disciplined to learn the right typing techniques.
